“Knight After Night!”

Green Lantern takes center stage on this March 2011 installment of DC's sweeping history of its heroic universe, with a determined Hal Jordan soaring forward in his classic costume while a towering, green-energy-wreathed visage looms dramatically behind him — perfectly capturing the cover's bold proclamation of "A Hero's Return!" The cover art by Jesús Saiz and inker Karl Story gives the whole composition a striking cosmic energy, and the bonus tagline "Plus: Blackest Adam!" promises even more DC mythology packed inside. DCU: Legacies #9 is a fine chapter in this love letter to the DC Universe's rich past.

The wizard Shazam recalls his attempts to find a successor over the centuries, choosing both the pharaoh Kha-Ef-Re and Prince Khufu too late, then disastrously empowering Teth-Adam, and finally creating the triumvirate of Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, and Captain Marvel, Jr. who have fought the resurrected Teth-Adam, now called Black Adam, innumerable times.
