Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Tony S. Daniel — with inks by Kevin Conrad and Art Thibert, colors by Richard and Tanya Horie, letters by Nick J. Napolitano, and editing by Eddie Berganza — the issue launched the 'New Teen Titans, Part 1' arc as part of DC's line-wide One Year Later initiative following Infinite Crisis. Johns and Daniel faced a dramatically altered landscape: Superboy had died, Bart Allen had been aged into an adult Flash, and several core Titans had scattered, so they structured the entire issue around Cyborg's reboot sequence as a storytelling device to deliver those losses in rapid, cinematic flashback — a technique one contemporary reviewer compared to the opening of RoboCop. The issue shipped with two distinct covers, one by Tony S. Daniel and one by Ed Benes, and demand was sufficient to warrant a second printing on May 3, 2006, using pencil art from the Daniel cover.
