The New Teen Titans #24 delivers the first appearance of X'Hal, the living goddess at the spiritual center of the entire Vegan star system — a figure whose tortured mythology Wolfman and Pérez would continue to develop across the Omega Men ongoing series and beyond. The issue is part two of the ambitious four-chapter 'Starfire Saga,' a crossover threading through Action Comics and both Titans titles, which proved that the Wolfman-Pérez series could sustain sprawling cosmic storytelling on par with Marvel's space epics of the era. By weaving together the Titans, Superman, the Omega Men, and Starfire's villainous sister Blackfire in a single arc, the creative team made the case for the DC universe as an interconnected cosmos, directly laying groundwork for the Omega Men's graduation to their own solo title in April 1983.

History

The issue falls squarely within the creative peak of writer Marv Wolfman and penciler George Pérez's celebrated collaboration on New Teen Titans, plotted jointly and inked by Romeo Tanghal, with Len Wein as editor and Carl Gafford as assistant editor. The 'Starfire Saga' was a calculated crossover spanning Action Comics #535–536 and New Teen Titans #23–25 plus Annual #1 (all 1982), designed to expand DC's space mythology by connecting Starfire's Tamaranean heritage to the already-established Omega Men — themselves introduced by Wolfman in Green Lantern vol. 2 #141 (June 1981). The Titans crossover gave the Omega Men the higher-profile showcase they needed and served as a de facto tryout series before DC green-lit their own monthly title.
