Neil Gaiman

Neil Richard MacKinnon Gaiman was born on 10 November 1960 in England and went on to become one of the most versatile authors working across comics, novels, screenplays, and audio theatre. He entered comics in the late 1980s, and catalog records show him active as a writer from 1987 through 2025, with credits on 367 issues. His most prominent comics work is *The Sandman*, the mythology-rich Vertigo series that ran from 1989 to 1996 and remains his signature achievement in the medium. He also wrote *Black Orchid* and *Marvel 1602*, among other titles.

Beyond comics, Gaiman built an equally substantial prose career. *Good Omens* (1990, co-written with Terry Pratchett), *American Gods* (2001), *Coraline* (2002), and *The Graveyard Book* (2008) are among his best-regarded novels. *The Graveyard Book* earned him both the Newbery Medal and the Carnegie Medal — a distinction no other author had previously achieved with a single work. *The Ocean at the End of the Lane* (2013) won Book of the Year at the British National Book Awards and was later adapted for the stage at the Royal National Theatre. His awards span Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker honors as well. Beginning in 2024, multiple women made sexual assault accusations against Gaiman, which he denied; the allegations significantly disrupted several adaptations of his work.
