Sandman #62

Part six of Neil Gaiman's "The Kindly Ones" arc arrives with a cover by Dave McKean that is as unsettling as it is visually arresting — a deep crimson field filled with reaching, shadowed hands and a pale arm grasping toward glowing, wire-like tendrils that curl in luminous amber loops against the dark. The composition has that signature McKean quality: photographic texture colliding with abstraction, all of it humming with a sense of dread and inevitability. Interior art comes from Glyn Dillon and Charles Vess, making this a richly collaborative chapter in one of DC Vertigo's most ambitious 1994 releases.
