Dave McKean's haunting cover for this 1989 DC series entry presents a fragmented, dreamlike composition — a torso rendered in warm photographic tones merges with a pale, ghostly face sketched in pencil, all framed against a worn wooden door with a brass knob and keyhole. Smaller vignettes line the border like fragments of half-remembered visions: skeletal hands, pale fingers, and drifting forms that amplify the unsettling atmosphere. With Neil Gaiman, Mike Dringenberg, and Malcolm Jones III on the interior, Sandman: Master of Dreams was already establishing itself as one of 1989's most visually and narratively distinctive series.
