Our Army at War
A cornerstone of DC's war-comics line, Our Army at War ran for 301 issues from 1952 to 1977, chronicling the grit and humanity of soldiers in World War II and beyond. The series is most indelibly associated with writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert, whose work defined the iconic Sgt. Rock and his Easy Company, while also featuring other recurring figures like the frontier hero Little Sure Shot and the surreal Ice Cream Soldier. With additional regular contributions from Jack Schiff, Russ Heath, and Sam Glanzman, the title balanced harrowing combat with character-driven stories, occasionally crossing over with Superman. It remains a landmark of the genre for its unflinching yet heartfelt portrayal of war, anchored by Kubert's raw, expressive art.
