“Brass Sergeant!”

In "Brass Sergeant!", Sgt. Rock’s field promotion to Lieutenant puts him under pressure to prove he belongs at the new rank—especially to his old squad. Meanwhile, Lt. Smith faces his own test, trying to earn his father’s respect in the heat of battle. Written by Robert Kanigher and drawn with grit by Joe Kubert—both pencils and inks—this 1964 issue captures the weight of command and the quiet pride of a man who knows his true place. The cover by Joe Kubert perfectly frames the tension between duty and identity.
