Rock keeps encountering a nameless soldier who saves his life in various skirmishes but seems to vanish before anyone else sees him. Finally, the soldiers of Easy Company witness his death as he is crushed by a tank he managed to blow up. Later, Rock learns from his superiors that the brave hero will be honored as the Unknown Soldier of World War II.
