Joe Kubert's cover for this January 1969 DC issue says it all in bold, dripping orange letters: "Sgt. Rock IS Here!" — with "WAS" defiantly crossed out. Rock himself crouches at the center, battle-worn and bristling with ammunition belts, explosions flaring around him as ghostly hands reach from a bullet-pocked wall behind him. The teaser "Who Is the Graffiti Writer?" adds a touch of mystery to writer Robert Kanigher and artist Kubert's gritty wartime drama.
