From 1940 to 1951, DC’s All-Star Comics assembled the publisher’s top heroes into the first ongoing superhero team series, most frequently written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Irwin Hasen. While the book introduced the Justice Society of America—featuring such regulars as Jay Garrick’s Flash, Al Pratt’s Atom, and Dr. Mid-Nite—it also balanced its roster with lighter features like Captain Tootsie and Rollo. Spanning 57 issues, this Golden Age landmark established the enduring template for team-up storytelling in comics.
