Who is Dracula?

Vlad Tepes Dracula was a 15th-century Transylvanian warlord transformed into the immortal Lord of Vampires after being bitten by the vampire Varnae. Cursed with a thirst for blood yet granted superhuman strength, shapeshifting, and centuries of undead dominion, he became the most powerful vampire in Marvel's world.

Few characters in Marvel's vast library can claim a Golden Age debut β€” but this Dracula first haunted the pages of Comic Capers #1 back in 1944, making him one of the most enduring figures in the publisher's entire history. Over more than eight decades of publication, he has accumulated 341 catalog appearances and a remarkable ten key issues that collectors prize, a testament to just how indelibly he's been woven into Marvel's mythology. He's most at home in Tomb of Dracula and Dracula Lives, those iconic series that cemented Marvel's horror legacy, and the company he keeps is extraordinary β€” sharing pages with the likes of Blade, Frank Drake, Rachel Van Helsing, and Quincy Harker, names that any fan of Marvel's horror corner will immediately recognize. If you have any appetite for the darker, more gothic side of comics history, this is a character whose long shadow is absolutely worth exploring.
