“Flight of Fear!”

Dracula takes his reign of terror to American skies in this September 1975 Marvel thriller, as the cover — penciled by Gil Kane and inked by Tom Palmer — captures the Lord of the Undead swooping through the air with a terrified blonde woman in tow, a full yellow moon blazing behind them. Below, a squad of helmeted soldiers levels rifles and rocket launchers upward, their commander shouting "Keep firing, men! That vampire must be destroyed!" — while the cover copy triumphantly announces that the Lord of the Undead invades America at last. With Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan driving the series at the height of its powers in 1975, "Flight of Fear!" promises exactly the breathless, gothic tension the title was known for.
