“Requiem for a Vampire!”

Dracula looms large and menacing on this April 1977 cover — red-eyed, fangs bared, one clawed hand thrust directly at the reader beneath a skull-faced moon, with a gothic castle and a swarm of bats silhouetted behind him. Gene Colan and Tom Palmer deliver a genuinely striking image, the Lord of Vampires commanding you to "gaze into the eyes of Dracula" in a composition that earns its bold confidence. Marvel and writer Marv Wolfman were clearly swinging for the fences with this one, as the cover itself proudly bills "Requiem for a Vampire!" as "possibly the greatest Dracula story ever!
