Tomb of Dracula #21

The cover of this June 1974 issue says it all — "Vampire Battles Vampire in a Sinister Duel of the Unliving!" — and John Romita's art delivers exactly that, with a caped Dracula locked in fierce combat against another fanged figure brandishing a wooden stake, while a horrified red-haired woman looks on from the doorway and flames erupt around them. The small inset corner image of Dracula looming over a yellow glow sets an ominous tone before you even crack the spine. With Marv Wolfman writing and the Gene Colan/Tom Palmer art team bringing the interior story "Deathknell" to life, this is one of those mid-1970s horror comics that made Tomb of Dracula such a compelling monthly read.
