Gabe Jones
Gabriel 'Gabe' Jones was a highly skilled U.S. Army soldier and jazz trumpeter who served with Nick Fury's elite Howling Commandos during World War II, occasionally turning his trumpet into a tactical battlefield tool. He later carried his combat expertise into service with S.H.I.E.L.D.
Few supporting players in Marvel's Silver Age have shown the staying power of Gabe Jones, who first turned up in Fantastic Four #29 back in 1964, courtesy of the legendary Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Over six decades and 141 catalog appearances — including a dozen key issues that collectors prize — Gabe has proven himself a genuine fixture of the Marvel Universe rather than a footnote. He keeps extraordinary company, sharing pages with the likes of Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, Captain America, and Ben Grimm across titles ranging from Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Godzilla. That breadth alone tells you something: this is a character woven into the fabric of Marvel's espionage and adventure corners, a Silver Age original still making his presence felt well into the 21st century.
