“The Fate of Las Vegas”

In "The Fate of Las Vegas," Godzilla’s rampage reaches a shocking new scale as he breaches the Hoover Dam and floods the Nevada desert, sweeping him toward the glittering Las Vegas strip. When a mobster’s bullet ignites his fury, the beast unleashes chaos across the city—only for the dam’s final collapse to send a devastating wave of water to obliterate the strip in a single, unstoppable surge. Written by Doug Moench and brought to life with dynamic art by Herb Trimpe (pencils and inks), this 1978 Marvel classic delivers a high-stakes, waterlogged showdown with a cover by Trimpe that captures the disaster in bold, cinematic detail.

Godzilla attacks the Hoover Dam (then called Boulder Dam) on the Nevada border. The dam bursts and a huge torrent of water washes Godzilla all the way to a Las Vegas strip. Godzilla contemplates attacking the city and does so when he is shot by a mobster. During his rampage, the rest of the damaged dam gives way and the water rushes toward the strip completely destroying it. After Godzilla comes to his senses he leaves.
