With S.H.I.E.L.D. trying to redirect the beast and the Fantastic Four realizing they can't handle the threat alone, the Avengers are called in—leading to a desperate battle that ends with Godzilla falling into the Hudson, only to rise again, more furious than before. Written by Doug Moench and brought to life by Herb Trimpe’s dynamic art, with Dan Green’s inks and Ben Sean’s colors, this 1979 Marvel classic captures the chaos and scale of a giant monster on the rampage. The cover, also by Trimpe and Green, perfectly captures the moment of tension as the city braces for what comes next.
