About the series
From 1945 to 1950, Quality Comics published Modern Comics, a 59-issue anthology series that showcased the publisher's stable of adventure and humor features. The series is best remembered for its Blackhawk stories, with the team's early adventures drawn by Reed Crandall, and for the lighter exploits of characters like Cherry Lane and Choo Choo LaMoe. Bill Ward, Bill Woolfolk, and Bernard Dibble were the most frequent writers, while Crandall, John Forte, and Ward handled much of the art. Modern Comics matters as a snapshot of Quality's post-war lineup, bridging the shift from wartime superheroics to the varied genres that defined the late 1940s.
