Mike Costa

Mike Costa is an American comic book and television writer whose decade-long output in comics spans licensed properties, superhero team books, and darker genre fare. His first published work arrived in 2008 with *The Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor*, illustrated by Fiona Staples, for WildStorm — an auspicious debut that paired him with an artist who would go on to considerable acclaim of her own.

Costa built much of his comics reputation at IDW Publishing, where he became a reliable voice for franchise material. His run on *G.I. Joe: Cobra* drew particular notice; writer Brian K. Vaughan singled it out as proof that a licensed comic could match the quality of mainstream or creator-owned work, a meaningful endorsement in a corner of the industry sometimes dismissed as purely commercial. He also wrote *The Transformers* for IDW and adapted the *Resistance* video game property into comics form. At DC he contributed *Blackhawks*, and his catalog across roughly 155 credited issues between 2008 and 2018 includes titles such as *God Is Dead* and *Web Warriors*.

Costa eventually transitioned into television, joining the writers' room on the FOX series *Lucifer* during its first season. When the show moved to Netflix for its fourth season, he advanced to a producer role — a trajectory that reflects the cross-media range he had developed throughout his career in comics.
