Carl Pfeufer
Carl Pfeufer was an American comic book artist, painter, and sculptor, best known for his early work on the Sub-Mariner for Marvel Comics and as the long-running artist on the *Tom Mix Western* comic series. Born Carl T. Pfeufer on September 29, 1910, he began his career in the late 1930s, contributing to the nascent comic book industry. He became one of the primary artists on the Sub-Mariner, helping to define the visual look of the aquatic hero during the Golden Age. Pfeufer’s style was clean and dynamic, suited to both superhero action and Western adventure. He later found his signature role as the artist on *Tom Mix Western*, a licensed comic based on the popular cowboy actor, where he worked for many years. His other credits include *Golden Funnies*, *Wow Comics*, and *Don Winslow of the Navy*. Pfeufer was also a talented magazine illustrator and sculptor. He passed away on May 5, 1980. While he did not receive major industry awards, his early contributions to Marvel and his long tenure on a classic Western title have secured his place in comic book history.
