Tom Mix and his companion Howard track two criminals named Sykes and Flak to a hideout in the hills. After learning from a tavern keeper that the crooks have stolen a gold shipment and hidden it nearby, Tom and Howard set out to recover it. When they discover the gold is missing from where the criminals stashed it, a tense confrontation ensues, leading to a dramatic rodeo sequence where Tom must manage a dangerous greased steer to distract and apprehend the thieves while protecting an innocent bystander named Dobbs from harm.
