Tony Akins
Tony Akins is a comic book artist best known for his long-running work on DC/Vertigo’s *Jack of Fables* and *Fables*, as well as contributions to *Hellblazer*, *House of Mystery*, and a stint on *Wonder Woman* during the New 52 relaunch. Born in the United States, Akins began his professional career in the late 1980s, slowly building a reputation for clean, expressive linework that balanced moody fantasy with grounded character acting. His style, often inked by himself, lent a distinct visual texture to the darkly whimsical world of Bill Willingham’s Fables universe, where he became a defining artist on the spin-off *Jack of Fables*. He also collaborated with writers like Mike Carey on *Hellblazer* and Brian Azzarello on *Wonder Woman*, and contributed to the acclaimed series *Manifest Destiny*. Akins co-created the character Papa Midnite in the *Hellblazer* universe. Over a career spanning from 1987 to 2024, he has been credited on more than 125 issues as an artist, inker, letterer, or writer. While not a frequent award winner, his work remains respected for its consistency and narrative clarity. Akins continues to be a steady presence in the industry, with his legacy tied closely to the Vertigo era’s blend of horror, fantasy, and folklore.
