Jack of Fables #36

The cover by Brian Bolland says it all — a bare-chested, grinning Jack swings gleefully through a jungle canopy on tangled vines while a troupe of very unimpressed chimpanzees watches from below and above. It's a pitch-perfect Tarzan riff that fits the story title "Jack 'n' Apes" with a wink and a smirk, capturing the series' trademark blend of fairy-tale cheek and genre-bending fun. Writer Chris Roberson and artist Tony Akins bring their talents to this September 2009 Vertigo entry, and Bolland's lively cover sets a wonderfully playful tone for whatever mischief Jack has gotten himself into this time.
