Denis Rodier
1963–
Denis Rodier was born in 1963 and is a Quebec-based comic book artist and illustrator whose career spans commercial illustration, comics, painting, and music. After establishing himself as an illustrator beginning in 1986, he transitioned into comics two years later, with early work appearing in DC Comics' Detective Comics — including a Batman story published as a Bonus Book in issue #589 (August 1988).
It is his extensive work on Superman that earned Rodier his widest recognition. His contributions to the award-winning "The Death of Superman" story arc brought him significant acclaim, and he logged substantial runs across Action Comics, Adventures of Superman, and Superman itself, accumulating credits on nearly 190 issues between 1988 and 2025. He also contributed artwork to titles such as The Demon, Hook, and Challengers of the Unknown, and worked across DC, Milestone Media, and Marvel on characters ranging from Batman to Captain America to Wonder Woman.
Beyond superhero comics, Rodier has pursued a parallel career as a painter and picture-book illustrator. His artwork appeared in the illustration anthology Arzach Made in U.S.A., and his picture book Shoes for Amélie received the McNally Robinson Book for Young People Award. His freelance client list has included musicians Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto, and he contributed regularly to the Quebec humor magazine Safarir.
Today Rodier lives in Quebec's Laurentian region, where he continues painting, creating comics for the French market, and playing music.
