Two figures in red — tumbling dramatically against the blazing disc of what the title declares is Krypton's sun — make for a striking, almost balletic cover image on this 48-page 1991 issue of The Adventures of Superman. Jerry Ordway both wrote and handled the cover pencils and inks, lending "Last Sun of Krypton" a cohesive, visceral energy that pulls the eye straight to those two intertwined, free-falling forms set against a fiery red sky. With a creative roster that also includes Tom Grummett, Dan Jurgens, Curt Swan, and Jon Bogdanove among others, issue #480 is a genuine collaboration of some of the era's most accomplished Superman talents.

First appearance of Ron Troupe, an African-American investigative reporter created by writer Jerry Ordway and artist Tom Grummett; Troupe applies for a job at the Daily Planet but is turned down by acting editor Sam Foswell in this debut.
Ron Troupe is described by multiple sources as one of the most enduring Post-Crisis Daily Planet supporting characters alongside Cat Grant, and would later marry Lucy Lane and cover the 'Reign of the Supermen' from the ground level.
The issue is the third chapter of the four-part 'Revenge of the Krypton Man' crossover (Triangle numbers 1991/19–22), the first story arc to run through all four core Superman titles simultaneously: Superman: The Man of Steel #1, Superman #57, Adventures of Superman #480, and Action Comics #667.
Story title is 'Dying Breed'; the main plot has the Eradicator hurl Superman into the sun and, returning to Earth, begins physically converting landmarks — including altering Abraham Lincoln's statue — into Kryptonian monuments.
The crossover continues directly from Superman (vol. 2) #57 and concludes in Action Comics #667.
Cover date is July 1991; on-sale date was May 30, 1991; the issue runs 52 pages with a cover by Jerry Ordway.
