G. Willow Wilson

Gwendolyn Willow Wilson was born on August 31, 1982, and has built one of the more distinctive careers in contemporary American comics, working across superhero titles and creator-owned projects with equal confidence. Her writing tends toward magical realism, blending grounded human drama with fantastical elements in ways that feel organic rather than ornamental.

Wilson came to broader attention through prose before fully establishing herself in comics — her 2012 novel *Alif the Unseen* won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel the following year, and a second novel, *The Bird King*, followed in 2019. Her comics career spans back to 2007, covering more than 230 credited issues across publishers including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and IDW.

Her most prominent mainstream work was shepherding the relaunched *Ms. Marvel* for Marvel Comics, where she co-created Kamala Khan, a sixteen-year-old Muslim American superhero who quickly became one of the publisher's most talked-about characters. Wilson wrote the series from February 2014 through February 2019, and its first collected volume earned the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story. She has also written *Wonder Woman* and *A-Force* for Marvel, and since 2022 has been the ongoing writer on DC's *Poison Ivy*.

Her creator-owned work has drawn consistent recognition: *Invisible Kingdom*, published through Dark Horse, won the 2020 Eisner Award for Best New Series, and *The Hunger and the Dusk* for IDW was a finalist for the 2025 Hugo Award.
