Air #2
From Vertigo's 2008 series about the anxious flight attendant navigating a world of conspiracies, this second chapter of "Letters From Lost Countries" arrives with a cover by M. K. Perker that says everything about the tension at its heart. A flight attendant in an orange uniform pushes a beverage cart crammed with rifles, grenades, and handguns down a cabin aisle packed with an extraordinarily diverse crowd of armed, watchful passengers — turbaned figures, soldiers, men in suits, a scarred bald man in the foreground, all bristling with weapons. It's a quietly unsettling image that captures the series' gift for finding the extraordinary lurking inside the mundane, and Brian Azzarello's cover quote — "I am knee deep in AIR… There is so much to love about this story" — is hard to argue with.
