100% Cult Comics. Halo - Levantamiento #[nn] (2011)
Born in Bulgaria, Alex Maleev has built one of the more distinctive careers in American superhero comics, working as artist, colorist, and inker across more than 300 issues spanning three decades. He entered the industry in the mid-1990s and steadily developed a style marked by gritty, photorealistic textures and moody, shadow-heavy compositions that felt closer to crime fiction than conventional cape fare.
Logan: Black, White & Blood #1 (2026)
His most celebrated work came through a long partnership with writer Brian Michael Bendis on the second volume of Marvel's *Daredevil*. That run proved influential well beyond the page — showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has acknowledged Maleev's visual approach as a direct template for the acclaimed Netflix television adaptation of the character. The collaboration reflected Maleev's particular strength: grounding superhero narratives in a tactile, street-level atmosphere that feels genuinely urban and earned.
Sentry #1 (2026)
Beyond *Daredevil*, Maleev has contributed significantly to titles including *Moon Knight*, *Infamous Iron Man*, and the creator-owned *Scarlet*, again alongside Bendis. Earlier in his career he worked on *Sam and Twitch*, further demonstrating his affinity for noir-inflected storytelling. His credits also include *Devil & Hulk*. Throughout his career Maleev has remained one of the more visually serious illustrators working in mainstream comics, consistently prioritizing atmosphere and psychological weight over spectacle.
