Part of Marvel's 2008 Secret Invasion "Who Do You Trust?" banner, this issue of Punisher War Journal features a striking Alex Maleev cover that sets a distinctly noir mood. A dark-haired woman draped in a large constrictor snake lounges in a red chair, while a brooding, sketch-like male face looms large in the background — together they create an atmosphere of danger wrapped in cool, unsettling glamour. With Matt Fraction writing and Howard Chaykin on art, "The Survivors Guild" promises the kind of gritty, stylish storytelling this series does so well.
