Chuck Clayton
Chuck Clayton is a talented teenage artist and athlete at Riverdale High School who became one of Archie Andrews's close friends after his family moved to Riverdale. The son of Coach Clayton, Chuck is best known for his passion for drawing comics.
Few characters in the Archie universe have demonstrated staying power quite like Chuck Clayton, who made his debut in Reggie's Wise Guy Jokes #17 in 1971 β a Bronze Age arrival courtesy of writer George Gladir. Over the course of a remarkable 54-year publishing history, Chuck has become a genuine fixture of Riverdale life, logging nearly 800 catalog appearances and sharing countless pages with beloved regulars like Moose Mason, Dilton Doiley, Midge Klump, Pop Tate, and Hiram Lodge. He's most at home in the digest format β particularly Archie Comics Digest and Betty & Veronica Double Digest β those beloved thick little volumes that defined generations of readers' relationships with Riverdale. With seven key-issue appearances to his name and a run stretching well into 2025, Chuck Clayton is exactly the kind of enduring, collector-worthy character who rewards a deeper dive into the stacks.
