“Kick Off”

One player on the Riverdale squad has clearly decided that blending in is overrated — the cover by Dan DeCarlo and Rudy Lapick shows a confident young man striding onto the court in a full superhero costume (cape, star emblem, and all) while his bemused teammates in standard uniforms look on, cheerleaders cheering in the background. His speech bubble says it all: "I'm making it easy for our fans to spot the team's best player!" It's a perfectly timed gag that captures the warm, light-hearted humor that made Archie's Pals 'n' Gals such reliable fun in 1975.
