About this issue

This British science-fiction pulp features "The Envied" by Jonathan Burke as its lead novella, presenting a dystopian Earth where the dead are converted into emotionless grey-skinned beings who rule society, progressively severing all connections to their former human lives. The protagonist Warren watches his girlfriend Judith get struck by a monocar and taken to conversion by these creatures, then impulsively follows her to the hospital, harboring desperate hopes of maintaining contact with her converted self. Accompanying stories include "It's Dark Out There" by Sydney J. Bounds, "Jean—Gene—Jeanne" by Clifford C. Reed, and "The Blackdown Miracle" by Peter J. Hazell. Non-fiction articles by Professor Delwood, Frank Wilson, George Duncan, and W. W. Byford cover cosmology, scientific method, hallucinogens, and gravity respectively.
