Born on 2 May 1981, Simon "Si" Spurrier is a British comics writer and novelist whose career spans both the British and American comics industries. Before finding his footing in sequential art, he worked as a cook, a bookseller, and an art director at the BBC — a varied background that perhaps informs the eclectic, often darkly comic sensibility running through his work.
2000 AD #1496 (2006)
He broke into comics through the British small press before graduating to 2000 AD, where he created several original series including *Lobster Random*, *Bec & Kawl*, *The Simping Detective*, and *Harry Kipling*, alongside contributions to the long-running *Judge Dredd*. His transition into American comics brought him to Marvel, where he wrote *X-Force* in 2014–15 — a team book built around Cable, Psylocke, Marrow, and Fantomex — and later co-wrote *Star Wars: Doctor Aphra* with Kieron Gillen beginning in late 2017, eventually taking sole writing duties from issue #20 onward in 2018.
2000 AD #1498 (2006)
Among his most prominent ongoing credits are *The Dreaming*, *The Flash*, *Crossed Plus One Hundred*, *Damn Them All*, and *John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America*, with over 160 issues to his name across a career active from 2005 to the present. Parallel to his comics work, Spurrier has written fiction, signing a two-book deal with Hodder Headline that produced the novels *Contract* (2007) and *A Serpent Uncoiled* (2011).
