John Constantine: Hellblazer #9

John Constantine leans casually against the Royal Coat of Arms — cigarette in hand, small glass raised — while a chained unicorn rears beside the heraldic shield bearing lions and harp, the whole scene framed by the motto Dieu et Mon Droit. It's a wonderfully sardonic image: Britain's grandest symbols of power and pageantry serving as a backdrop for the most irreverent working-class magus in comics, rendered with quiet authority by cover artist John Paul Leon. Simon Spurrier, Matías Bergara, and Jordie Bellaire's Sandman Universe run continues to find fresh, unsettling angles on Constantine's world, and this issue's title, "The Favourite," hints at court intrigue of a distinctly occult kind.
