John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #2

Part of DC's Black Label Sandman Universe line, this 2024 issue plunges John Constantine deeper into American darkness with a cover that earns its mature rating — a writhing, decayed figure looms at center, arms outstretched and body wreathed in tattered flesh, while two unsettling faces press in from the edges, bathed in a queasy wash of red and blue light. Aaron Campbell's painted-style cover work, colored by Jordie Bellaire, gives the whole thing an atmosphere closer to horror cinema than superhero comics. Simon Spurrier's Dead in America continues to look like the Hellblazer story that genuinely understands what makes Constantine's world so compelling and so deeply uncomfortable.
