Mike Allred

Michael Dalton Allred, born in 1962, is an American artist and writer whose idiosyncratic visual sensibility has made him one of the more distinctive voices in independent and mainstream comics alike. He is best known as the creator of Madman, the long-running series that became a touchstone of alternative superhero storytelling, and as co-creator and artist of the comic book series iZombie.

Allred's path into comics led to a career spanning more than three decades, with catalog credits as artist, writer, colorist, inker, and letterer across 188 issues between 1989 and 2022. His aesthetic draws heavily from pop art and the commercial and comic illustration of the 1950s and 1960s — clean lines, bold compositions, and a retro warmth that sets his pages apart from contemporaries.
