Art Peddy
Art Peddy was an American comic book and advertising artist, best known for co-creating the superhero Phantom Lady for Quality Comics and the jungle girl Jann of the Jungle for Atlas Comics. Born Arthur F. Peddy on December 26, 1916, he began his art career in the late 1930s, during the period fans and historians call the Golden Age of Comic Books. He remained active in the medium into the 1970s, after which he shifted his focus to commercial art and advertising. Peddy also penciled the Justice Society of America for what later became DC Comics. His work appeared in titles such as *Airboy Comics*, *All-American Comics*, *Secret Hearts*, *Heart Throbs*, *Mystic*, and *All-Star Comics*. Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein’s 1965 painting *Sound of Music* is based on a Peddy comic-book panel. Peddy died on May 15, 2002.
