“The Easter Egg”

In "The Easter Egg," young inventor Rickie receives thrilling news: his German model plane design has been accepted for the National Model HQ contest, setting off a journey to New York. As he boards the train, the mysterious Heap—still fixated on the craft—follows him into the city, leading to a tense confrontation when police try to stop the creature, only to find it far more resilient than expected. Written by Bill Woolfolk and Patricia Highsmith, with art by Art Peddy and Bernard Sachs, and a cover by Dan Barry, this 1946 Hillman classic blends wartime intrigue with early superhero weirdness in a story that’s equal parts whimsy and unease.

Rickie gets a telegram informing him that his German model plane's blueprints have been accepted by the National Model HQ, and he is invited to enter their contest. The Heap, still infatuated by that model, watches as Rickie leaves on a train bound for New York with the model, and follows him to the Big Apple.
