When Hot Rod King and his mechanic Hank Harrigan get swindled out of a race by Roscoe "The Rascal" Roarback and his daughter Eve, they accept a high-stakes wager: build a faster hot rod from junkyard parts under the same two-hundred-dollar budget. But as race day arrives, sabotage and dangerous driving push everyone toward a shocking finish that forces King to make a choice between winning and doing what's right. Frank Giacoia illustrates this thrilling tale of pride, cheating, and redemption on the salt flats.

When a desperate killer named Baby Face Killeen escapes police custody after two weeks in jail, he tracks down Jim Traynor and Dave Thompson—the hot rod enthusiasts who helped capture him once before—and forces them into his getaway car at gunpoint. With Killeen holding them hostage on a dark road out of town, Jim uses his souped-up ride's trick throttle to create a distraction, giving himself and Dave a desperate chance to turn the tables on their armed captor. It's a high-octane clash between street-smart rodders and a criminal backed into his final corner.
