About this Collection

This volume collects the earliest adventures of The Heap, a monstrous swamp creature from the Golden Age of comics, originally published in the 1940s by Hillman Periodicals. Roy Thomas presents these classic stories, showcasing the character's origins and early exploits in a restored format from PS Artbooks.

In "Wanted By the Nazis," a 2012 PS Artbooks release, young Rickie finds himself caught in a dangerous game after a model plane win draws unwanted attention. When his friend Tom is murdered and Rickie is buried alive, he uses his precise replica of Birdie’s plane to signal for help—leading the Heap to intervene. Written by Dick Wood and illustrated by Art Peddy, with inks by Bernard Sachs and colors by Dick Wood, the issue features a striking cover by Mike Ploog.
