“Bennett's Bride”

Atlas Comics' pre-Code anthology Mystic was promising "the most unusual stories ever told!" by 1954, and this July issue delivers a cover that makes good on that claim. Harry Anderson's artwork puts a horrified, screaming man at center stage — clawing desperately along the ground while a massive, taloned green creature looms in the foreground, its scaled leg and razor claws filling nearly half the frame — all set against a backdrop of burning buildings and flying saucers in a darkened sky. Featured story "The Survivor!" anchors the scene, and with interior art by Al Hartley and Art Peddy, there's plenty of strange awaiting readers inside.
