Rick Veitch is an American comics artist and writer born on May 7, 1951, whose career spans mainstream, underground, and alternative comics across more than five decades. He broke into the medium in 1973 and has accumulated credits as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across well over two hundred issues.

Veitch is perhaps most widely recognized for his work on *Swamp Thing*, the series with which his name is most persistently associated. Beyond that flagship title, he has demonstrated a restless creative range through deeply personal projects. *Roarin' Rick's Rare Bit Fiends* drew on dream imagery as its central engine, while *The Maximortal* showed his appetite for bold, unconventional superhero deconstruction. *Army@Love* brought a sharp satirical sensibility to war and consumer culture.

He also contributed to collaborative and licensed ventures, including *Neil Gaiman's Teknophage*, and produced the stylish *Greyshirt: Indigo Sunset*, which showcased his facility with formal experimentation. Throughout his work, Veitch has consistently pushed at the boundaries of the comics page — structurally, thematically, and visually — distinguishing himself from peers who stayed closer to genre convention. His longevity and willingness to move fluidly between underground sensibilities and mainstream platforms mark him as one of the more intellectually ambitious figures working in American comics during this period.
