Army@Love #1
Vertigo launched this sharp satirical series in 2007 with a cover that sets the tone perfectly — a steely-eyed helmeted soldier wearing dog tags gazes out from a war-torn, explosion-lit landscape while a blonde woman rests against him amid ammunition belts and combat gear, the whole image styled as a mock military recruitment ad complete with "Your life. Your war. See your recruiter." Rick Veitch's pencils and Gary Erskine's inks give the scene a slick, Madison Avenue gloss that makes the absurdity land even harder. If the tagline "Motivation & Morale" and the "Hot Zone Club" badge don't sell you on the premise, nothing will — this is war comic satire with a knowing smirk built right into the cover design.
