Army@Love #11
Vertigo's sharp-edged satire series rolls into its eleventh issue with a cover that says it all without saying a word: a bright yellow caution sign dominates the frame, its stick-figure pictogram standing headless — replaced by a small, frowning smiley face at its feet — while fires rage and black smoke billows over a war-torn urban streetscape behind it. Rick Veitch and Gary Erskine's cover design is darkly funny and unsettling in equal measure, distilling the series' whole sardonic worldview into a single roadside warning. If Las Vegas Weekly called it "a war comic like no other," this image for "Blood, Bath And Beyond" makes a pretty convincing case.
