“The Ballad of Franky and Johnny”

In "The Ballad of Franky and Johnny," Rick Veitch crafts a moody, character-driven tale set in a world where song and violence intertwine. As Johnny schemes to eliminate Spats Katz and betray Candi Lovelace, a mysterious phone call from Ella Bly—whose haunting ballad echoes through the streets—draws him into a final, unexpected confrontation. With Veitch handling every aspect of the interior art and inks, and Todd Klein’s lettering anchoring the mood, this 2002 issue delivers a gritty, emotionally charged story where loyalty is tested and fate sings in a minor key.
