The cover, penciled by Rick Veitch and inked by Gary Erskine, centers on a glamorous blonde woman in a bold red-and-gold striped dress, casually holding lipstick in one hand and a ring in the other while a bandaged, wild-eyed figure looms behind her clutching a firing pistol — all of it set against a backdrop of smoldering rubble and chaos. It's a wonderfully absurd image that captures the series' signature blend of warfare and consumer culture, and the Washington Post's "Best of the Year" nod is well-earned recognition for one of 2008's most provocative reads.
