About this Collection

This original graphic novel, released as part of Marvel's 1984 line of standalone stories, presents a self-contained science fiction tale. The narrative follows a young woman who discovers she possesses immense psionic powers, drawing the attention of both government agents and cosmic forces. Written and illustrated by Rick Veitch, 'Heartburst' explores themes of power, identity, and the consequences of extraordinary abilities outside the main Marvel Universe continuity.

In Heartbeat, Rick Veitch delivers a haunting, deeply human story set on the distant planet Epsilon Bootis, where Earth settlers clash with the native Ploo. With only 1950s TV broadcasts as their lifeline to home, a woman named Rimbaud with the rare "Heartburst" ability seeks others like her to bridge the gap between worlds—until Sunoco Firestone, unaware of his own gift, finds love with Maia, a Ploo high priestess, and must face the consequences of their union. The story unfolds with quiet intensity, exploring connection, identity, and the fragile threads that bind people across worlds. Cover by Rick Veitch.
