Marjorie Liu
Marjorie Liu is a New York Times best-selling author and comic book writer, best known for co-creating the acclaimed horror fantasy series *Monstress* with artist Sana Takeda. Born in 1979 in the United States, she initially built a career as a novelist, penning paranormal romance and urban fantasy works such as *The Hunter Kiss* and *Tiger Eye* series. Her path into comics began at Marvel, where she wrote for titles including *NYX*, *X-23*, *Dark Wolverine*, and *Astonishing X-Men*. In 2015, she launched her creator-owned series *Monstress* through Image Comics, which earned an Eisner Award nomination for Best New Series. The first trade paperback collection won a Hugo Award in 2017. In July 2018, Liu made history as the first woman in the 30-year history of the Eisner Awards to win Best Writer for her work on *Monstress*. Her other notable credits include *Black Widow* and *Han Solo*. Active in comics from 2008 onward, Liu’s writing is characterized by intricate world-building and strong character work, often blending fantasy with social commentary. Her legacy includes breaking barriers for women in mainstream comics and crafting a critically acclaimed series that has resonated widely with readers.
