In this pivotal issue of Astonishing X-Men, the team barely escapes Hatchi’s research facility—only to face a shocking revelation: Hatchi is Karma’s half-sister, wielding a terrifying power over them. As she commands them to seize control of Madripoor by any means, internal tensions explode, culminating in a brutal clash between Northstar and Iceman that ends in tragedy. Written by Marjorie Liu and brought to life with sharp, expressive art by Mike Perkins and dynamic colors by Jay David Ramos, this issue deepens the stakes with emotional weight and high-octane suspense. The cover by Phil Noto captures the moment’s intensity with striking precision.

The team escapes from Hatchi's research facility only to be confronted by Hatchi herself, who reveals that she is Karma's half-sister. She demonstrates her ability to control them and orders them to take over Madripoor for her by whatever means necessary. Gambit contacts Tyger Tiger but she refuses to help them conquer Madripoor. Tensions overtake the X-Men as they argue about how to proceed, and a fight between Northstar and Iceman ends when the latter falls into a vat of molten metal and seemingly disintegates.
